PencilPay, 2018 to 2026

I co-founded PencilPay and spent eight years building B2B payments automation for wholesale suppliers. By the time I stepped away it was handling around $78 million a month across 200,000 buyers and roughly 200 supplier businesses, with four payment gateways and seven ERP and accounting integrations behind it. I stepped away so the business could keep growing with its next team.

Work from 2009 to 2021. Some delivered directly, some as the outsourced development partner to other agencies. These businesses have grown with other teams since, so what you see on their sites today may not be my work.

Services

Four ways I work with people.

01

AI product delivery

Your idea, live in weeks. I build the two or three features your customers will actually use, ship them properly, and let real feedback decide what comes next. Secure, fast, and honest about scope.

02

AI enablement and training

Your team builds the conventional way and you can see what that is costing. I work with them hands on, in your codebase, on Claude, Codex and agentic workflows. Progress gets measured in delivery speed, not slides.

03

Fractional tech leadership

Scoping, architecture, platform and vendor decisions, and a sanity check on who you are about to hire. Twenty years of expensive lessons, available by the month.

04

Modernise and rescue

Legacy Magento, WordPress and Laravel. I have scaled, sped up and untangled hundreds of them. Migrations done properly, then automated so they stay that way.

About

Seventeen years, and the team of 45 became a toolkit.

I started GOS in Melbourne in 2009 and was one of the first Australians to build a development team in Vietnam. It grew to 45 people and delivered more than 300 projects, including Magento for Adore Beauty, 19 global sites for Aesop, a merchandising platform used inside Bunnings, and Australia’s first fully online car trade in, for Quickar.

Then I narrowed to one product. I co-founded PencilPay and spent eight years building B2B payments for wholesale suppliers, scaling it to 200,000 buyers and around $78 million a month.

The most useful thing I learned in all of it was not technical. Everyone is wrong about what customers want until customers touch the thing.

The businesses that won shipped something small, listened, and kept going. The ones that struggled polished feature number forty seven.

GOS today is something the 2009 version of me would not have believed. I design, build, deploy and run a portfolio of live products on my own, using AI tooling that did not exist three years ago. The team of 45 became a toolkit, and the output went up.

That is what I can do for your business too.
